appstream-util software package provides Software component index generator, you can install in your Debian 8 (Jessie) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install appstream-util
appstream-util is installed in your system.
Make ensure the appstream-util package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep appstream-util *
You will get with appstream-util package name, version, architecture and description in a table
